Handgun Training Since 2017
Spartan Handgun was founded in 2017, based on Mike’s extensive background as a police officer and passion for firearms training. Today, Mike offers a diverse curriculum of firearms, self-defense, active attack response, security, and bodyguard training to meet the demands of both ordinary citizens and law enforcement through effective hands-on instruction in firearm safety and self-defense.

Professional Training
I’m a U.S. Marine Veteran, and a current full-time Police Officer in Houston TX. I have had several responsibilities in my police career including working with gangs, being an accident investigator, and being an Anti-Terrorism, Police Instructor, and Active Shooter Instructor. In these roles, I attended many schools and federal training that slowly built up along with my interest in firearms, which was the beginning of Spartan Handgun Training. I decided very slowly to obtain more state certifications, a license to carry handguns, private security, and private bodyguard license training. Using the training from these organizations as a baseline, I molded my classes for the everyday person to get good, practical real-world training they were seeking and didn’t know existed.
I’m big on defending oneself, but in the correct and legal way. So I pass on to my clients, my 34 years of police experience and teach/instruct in layman’s terms. Of course, being a practical joker which I inherited from my mom, I make my classes fun and we laugh and learn a lot. Definitely not boring. Over the years, the word got out who I was and with lots of referrals and some marketing, people sought me out. Since 2017 I’ve instructed approximately eight thousand folks in Texas licenses to carry only and on a part-time basis. My main focus is to make my training very affordable and available to those who seek to protect themselves. With the training, I offer non-lethal use force products and training as alternative protection knowing firearms are not everyone’s cup of tea.
